Proper Bankroll Management is not the only Secret any player needs to win in the long run. Confidence, and a sense of being comfortable playing poker is extremely important.
Some players understand all the basic mechanics, yet they always get beat, because they see themselves being beat. They pre-visualize the beats, and maybe because of some weird unknown entity their luck is (-z) or below normal standard deviation.
What explanation can we infer as to the reasons why these "less lucky" individuals always get beat or "sucked out", as the veterans of poker like to call it?
My true gut feeling is not that they are less lucky, but that they are over confident, cocky, and arrogant to begin with. These players want to believe they are better, and think everyone else is a Douche, a moron, a Donk, etc...Yet the reason the opponents are acting like "Donks", which is probably true, is because of this players arrogance. He has lost the respect of his opponents. YOU CANNOT LOSE RESPECT AT THE TABLE!
The opponent must respect you, and only then can they fear you. Once they fear you, they are more readable (tells), easier to make fold (tighter), and they fold more often when you bluff. Just don't bluff to many times and get caught, because remember, your only a thief when you get caught!
So, being Confident and mostly friendly helps you gain their respect, and even friendship which leads to trust. So sitting down in the right frame of mind helps you win more, and spring back also from those bad beats you'll get. Don't forget that it's not because your confident, yet not arrogant, that your opponents won't play back at you...they just will less often, thus increasing your bottom line
